RIDESHARE ADVOCATES LAUNCH MOVING ILLINOIS FORWARD

New coalition of Illinois organizations aims to share benefits and support that ridesharing brings to communities across the state

CHICAGO – Today, organizations from across Illinois launched Moving Illinois Forward, a new coalition of rideshare advocates and partners who want to promote the benefits, rewards, and support that ridesharing services bring to communities across Illinois.

“Moving Illinois Forward is more than a slogan or traditional coalition to support ridesharing,” said Jack Lavin, President and CEO of the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce. “Instead, it’s a testament to Chicago’s innovative spirit and a boon to the city’s economy – one that is fundamental to the full integration of our transportation network and mobility. That’s why we’re proud to be a partner of this important alliance; it’s our mission at the Chamber to keep Illinois moving.”

Moving Illinois Forward was created to share the different ways ridesharing services like Lyft and Uber benefit communities and neighborhoods all across the state. Since the introduction of ridesharing to the Chicagoland area, rideshare has not only provided reliable transportation to previously underserved areas of the city and suburbs, but has also created new ways to generate additional revenue for communities, and helped reduce the number of DUI arrests in areas they operate.

“Being a part of the ridesharing community has provided me with the flexibility to prioritize my health and wellbeing while making enough supplemental income to pay my bills and cover my expenses,” said Camilla Hudson, Lyft driver.

“Ridesharing has significantly expanded transportation access for people in all communities, including those with disabilities. Thanks to Lyft, Uber, and other services, Chicagoans with disabilities can get to where they need to go affordably and reliably without relying on friends, family or public transportation,” said Maggie Hassler, Associate Director of Marketing and Partnerships for Aspire.

Moving Illinois Forward wants to promote the positive aspects that ridesharing provides its partners, which include Aspire, Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce, Codeverse, SocialWorks, and the Illinois Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
